Join us for an enlightening educational advocacy workshop, where our primary objective is to empower parents, guardians, educators, and/or advocates with the knowledge and tools necessary to champion the educational journey. In the first segment, participants will delve into the core components of Educational Advocacy, learning how to effectively support and advocate for their child’s educational needs. We’ll also focus on mastering communication and negotiation techniques, ensuring fruitful collaborations with educational stakeholders. A significant portion will be dedicated to the intricacies of Individualized Education Program (IEP) preparation, emphasizing the criticality of organization and thorough documentation. In the second segment, Tiffany Cook will demystify the concept of Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE) and introduce participants to the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework. Attendees will gain insights into the structure and purpose of MTSS, its foundational elements, and the three tiers of support it offers. We’ll also navigate the evaluation, eligibility, and IEP processes, highlighting the importance of parental involvement and the safeguards in place to protect your rights. Lastly, Dr. Milsap will guide participants through various evaluations used in educational settings, the significance of Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs), and the challenges in interpreting test scores. The workshop will conclude with an exploration of Executive Functioning, its role in cognitive processes, and its influence on academic and daily life. This online course will help you to:

Learners will be able to identify the fundamental components of Educational Advocacy, define and apply effective communication and negotiation techniques, and recognize the essential elements of IEP preparation, emphasizing the importance of systematic organization and meticulous documentation.

Participants will be equipped to interpret the essence of FAPE, define the MTSS framework, comprehend its six key elements and three tiers of support, navigate the IEP evaluation and eligibility process, and recognize the significance of parental involvement and procedural safeguards.

Participants will be able to identify various types of evaluations and their key components, as well as understand the purpose and significance of Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE).

Participants will be able to pinpoint challenges associated with interpreting test scores and define the concept of Executive Functioning.
